This project is a new elementary school in the Wayzata school district consisting of two stories with a mechanical penthouse and a two-story gymnasium space. The lower level area is 44,000 square feet, the main level is 35,000 square feet, with a total area of 79,000 square feet.

Typical roof construction is steel beams supporting K-series joists and metal roof deck. Typical floor construction is precast plank with non-composite topping spanning to steel beams. Beams are supported by steel tube columns and exterior masonry walls. Lateral system consists of masonry shear walls around building perimeter and steel braced frames at the penthouse structure.
Unique design elements included full story unbalanced soil load pushing against the building in the northwest corner and Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel (AESS) framing forming a “W” to support a cantilevered canopy at the main entry.
