Project Overview
BKBM provided structural engineering services for Brookview Elementary, a new 76,000-square-foot school in the Stillwater School District. The facility features single-story classroom wings, a mechanical penthouse, high-bay gymnasium, cafeteria, media center, and learning commons, supporting a dynamic and collaborative educational environment.
Project Highlights
- Flexible Learning Spaces:
- One-story classroom wings designed to foster collaboration and adaptability.
- Dedicated areas including a high-bay gymnasium, cafeteria, media center, and learning commons.
- Structural System:
- Roof structure composed of open-web steel joists supporting a metal deck.
- Penthouse floor constructed with precast concrete plank for added strength and durability.
- Roof and penthouse floor supported by structural steel framing and load-bearing concrete masonry walls.
- Lateral stability achieved using masonry shear walls and cantilevered steel columns, supporting various roof elevations and building geometry.
Engineering Solutions
BKBM engineered a robust and adaptable framework, integrating multiple structural systems to meet the functional and spatial needs of modern K-5 education. Emphasis was placed on construction efficiency, long-term durability, and the flexibility to support future teaching approaches and evolving community needs.
Results & Impact
Brookview Elementary School delivers a safe, inspiring, and flexible learning environment for students, faculty, and staff. BKBM’s structural engineering solutions support modern educational programming while providing long-lasting value and resilience for the Stillwater School District.
