Elk River High School Tennis Courts: Engineering Enhanced Athletic Spaces

Project Overview

BKBM provided civil engineering services for a comprehensive sports enhancement project in ISD #728, Elk River School District. The project comprised the installation of a new 12-court tennis stadium north of VandenBerge Middle School and the rehabilitation of existing tennis courts south of Salk Middle School.

Project Highlights

  • New Tennis Stadium:
    • Installation of 12 new tennis courts to accommodate school and community athletics.
    • Integrated a 30-foot wide central plaza/viewing area between courts for spectators and team gatherings.
    • Stormwater management for the stadium provided via a newly constructed infiltration basin west of the stadium to meet environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Rehabilitation & Multi-Use Enhancements:
    • Rehab of existing tennis courts at Salk Middle School, transforming one court into a paved basketball court for greater versatility.
    • Installation of a concrete wall west of the courts, serving as a tennis practice backboard and supporting broader activity options.

Engineering Solutions

BKBM’s civil design ensured proper site grading, drainage, and stormwater management to protect the new and rehabilitated sports facilities. The addition of public spaces, multi-purpose athletic surfaces, and viewing amenities created a flexible, community-friendly sports environment.
