About the Role
As a Structural Engineer in Training (EIT) at BKBM, you’ll immerse yourself in diverse building projects, collaborate with senior engineers, and develop the technical and leadership skills you need to advance your career. Key Responsibilities
Structural Analysis
- Conduct structural analyses with guidance from licensed engineers using leading industry software.
- Evaluate structural systems for code compliance and project requirements.
- Perform engineering calculations and simulations.
Design Support
- Prepare detailed structural drawings and construction specifications.
- Contribute creative and practical solutions to diverse design elements.
- Review contractor submittals for active projects.
Project Coordination
- Communicate effectively within multidisciplinary teams including architects, engineers, and clients.
- Attend project meetings, providing thoughtful structural insights and supporting your teammates.
- Integrate designs and details into construction documents with Revit-based designers.
Field Inspection & Assessment
- Participate in site visits to inspect existing structures and construction progress.
- Document findings and collaborate on recommendations with senior engineers.
Project Diversity
- Work on a range of projects such as schools, medical facilities, multi-story residential buildings, and more.
- Design in multiple materials, including steel, masonry, precast and post-tensioned concrete, and wood.
Professional Development
- Complete BKBM’s comprehensive EIT training program.
- Pursue continuing education to stay current on industry advancements.
- Progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure with full firm support.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution
- EIT certification or ability to obtain
- 0–4 years’ engineering experience (professional license not required)
- Strong technical foundation in structural analysis and design principles
- Ability to recognize boundary conditions, use free-body diagrams, and understand solid mechanics
- Proficiency with structural analysis software and Revit (preferred)
- Excellent communication and team collaboration skills
- Detail-oriented, eager to learn, and able to manage multiple tasks
