Structural Engineer Project Manager — Minneapolis
BKBM Engineers seeks a highly motivated Structural Project Manager to join our dynamic team in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a Project Manager at BKBM, you will be an integral part of our collaborative and innovative environment, leading a team of engineers and designers on a wide range of structural projects. This position offers the opportunity to shape projects as the primary collaborator with the client, to advance into a leadership position within our reputable firm.
Responsibilities
Project Management
- Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices while leading and mentoring a design team consisting of engineers and Revit designer(s)
- Concurrently plan, develop, coordinate, and direct the design of numerous engineering projects with construction values typically between $1M and $50M.
- Set clear expectations, provide frequent feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and represents the organization in meetings to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate design with other disciplines.
- Review and approve scopes, budgets, and schedules for projects and monitor progress.
- Be accountable for the design team’s success in achieving project milestones and successfully delivering projects.
- Review project documents for conformity and quality assurance. Assist with document development and technical review, as needed.
- Assist leadership and staff as a technical specialist or advisor and with staffing needs and personnel issues.
- When requested, prepare proposals for professional services.

- Maintain a network of clients and obtain repeat work from those clients.
- Participate in a professional practice organization, preferably with service as a board member or officer.

Qualifications
- Licensed professional engineer with a bachelor's and/or master’s degree in structural, civil, or architectural engineering from an accredited institution or at least ten years of experience in structural engineering for building design.
- Familiarity with structural analysis software and Revit.
- Experience leading/managing a structural team is preferred.

Structural Engineer in Training (EIT) — Minneapolis
BKBM Engineers is seeking a highly motivated Structural EIT to join our dynamic team in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As an EIT at BKBM, you will be an integral part of our collaborative and innovative environment, contributing to the design and analysis of a wide range of structural projects. This position offers the opportunity for hands-on experience and mentorship, with the goal of advancing your career within our reputable firm.
Responsibilities
Structural Analysis

Work closely with licensed engineers to conduct structural analyses using mainstream industry software.

Assist in the evaluation of structural systems for compliance with applicable building codes.

Perform structural calculations and simulations to support project requirements.
- Collaborate on the preparation of detailed structural drawings and specifications for construction projects.
- Contribute to the design of diverse structural elements, incorporating creativity and practical solutions.
- Review of contractor submittals for projects in construction
- Engage in effective communication with a multidisciplinary project team (architects, engineers, and clients).
- Attend project meetings, providing input on structural considerations and supporting project teammates as needed.
- Collaborate with Revit-based Structural Designers to incorporate designs and details into Construction Documents.
- Participate in site visits to investigate existing structures
- Participate in site visits to observe construction progress.
- Document observations and collaborate with senior engineers to determine appropriate recommendations and conclusions.
Project Diversity
- Provided the opportunity to work on an array of projects, including schools, medical facilities, multi-story residential buildings, and more.
- Design using multiple materials, including steel, masonry, precast concrete, post-tensioned concrete, and wood.
- Complete BKBM's comprehensive EIT training program.
- Actively pursue continuing education opportunities to stay abreast of industry advancements.
- Work towards obtaining Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, with support from BKBM's professional development programs.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in structural engineering for building design.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Strong technical aptitude and proficiency in structural analysis and design principles.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize appropriate boundary conditions, construct and analyze free-body diagrams, derive shear and moment diagrams, and have a sound understanding of solid mechanics.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
- EIT certification or the ability to obtain EIT certification.
- Zero to four years of engineering experience; professional license not a requirement.
- Familiarity with structural analysis software and Revit (preferred).
