Structural Engineer in Training (EIT) — Minneapolis
Responsibilities
Structural Analysis
- Work closely with licensed engineers to conduct structural analyses using industry-known software.
- Assist in the evaluation of structural systems for compliance with local and national building codes.
- Collaborate on the preparation of detailed structural drawings and specifications for construction projects.
- Contribute to the design of diverse structural elements, incorporating creativity and practical solutions.
- Engage in effective communication with multidisciplinary project team (architects, engineers, and clients).
- Attend project meetings, providing input on structural considerations and supporting project managers as needed.
- Participate in site visits to assess existing structures and monitor construction progress.
- Document observations and collaborate with senior engineers to address field challenges.
Project Diversity
- Have the opportunity to work on various projects, including schools, medical office buildings, multi-story residential buildings, and more.
- Work with multiple materials, including steel, masonry, precast concrete, post-tensioned concrete, and wood.
- Actively pursue continuing education opportunities to stay abreast of industry advancements.
- Work towards obtaining Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, with support from BKBM's professional development programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
- EIT certification or the ability to obtain EIT certification.
- Zero to four years of engineering experience; professional license not a requirement.
- Familiarity with structural analysis software and Revit (preferred).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.

Position Overview
As a Civil Graduate Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the planning, designing, and executing of various civil engineering projects. You will work closely with senior engineers and project managers to deliver high-quality solutions that meet client needs while adhering to industry standards and regulations. Responsibilities
Planning and Design
- Assist in the development of grading, utility, and paving plans.
- Hydrology and drainage design.
Engineering Analysis
- Perform engineering calculations and analyses to ensure the feasibility and efficiency of proposed designs.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to develop innovative solutions for project challenges.
Regulatory Compliance
- Stay informed about local, state, and federal regulations related to civil engineering projects.
- Assist in preparing permit applications and documentation for regulatory approval.
Project Collaboration
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including architects, landscape architects, and other engineering disciplines.
- Participate in project meetings and contribute to the overall success of the team.
Client Interaction
- Collaborate with clients to understand their project requirements and address their concerns.
- Provide clear and effective communication on project progress and findings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- EIT certification is required.
- 0-2 years of experience.
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, development, and infrastructure design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other relevant engineering software.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
