About the Role

As a Structural Project Manager, you are the key link between clients, design teams, and successful projects. You’ll lead engineers and Revit designers, manage projects from concept through construction, and play a central role in shaping client strategy and internal standards.

For the right person, this role is designed as a step toward greater responsibility in firm leadership, including client portfolio ownership, mentoring future PMs, and contributing to BKBM’s strategic direction.


Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and mentor a design team of engineers and Revit designers.
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and direct multiple projects, typically valued at $1M–$50M.
  • Set clear expectations, provide coaching and feedback, and guide team members’ development.
  • Make independent engineering decisions and represent BKBM in coordination meetings.
  • Review and approve project scopes, budgets, and schedules; monitor progress and adjust as needed.
  • Ensure quality assurance and on-time delivery of all project milestones and documents.
  • Serve as a technical resource and advisor; assist with staffing and workload planning.

Client & Business Development

  • Act as primary point of contact for key clients; maintain and grow relationships.
  • Secure repeat work by delivering consistent value and building trust.
  • Prepare proposals for professional services and support fee negotiations.
  • Participate in professional organizations; board or officer roles are encouraged.

Leadership Mindset

  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, professionalism, and a commitment to quality and constructible design.
  • Communicate clearly with staff, clients, and contractors, simplifying complexity where needed.
  • Solve complex engineering challenges with creativity and sound judgment.
  • Mentor and support team members, encouraging growth toward PM and PE roles.

  • Contribute to improving internal processes, standards, and project delivery practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), or at least 10 years’ experience in structural engineering for building design
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural, Civil, or Architectural Engineering (accredited)
  • Familiarity with structural analysis software and Revit
  • Experience leading/managing a structural engineering team preferred
