College of Saint Benedict Athletic Complex: Building Pride & Performance

Project Overview

BKBM provided structural engineering services for the College of Saint Benedict Athletic Complex, a transformative project that ties together new athletic fields, a signature Alumni Center, and essential amenities for student-athletes and fans.

Project Highlights

  • Alumni Center & Press Box:
    • The new 17,000-square-foot Alumni Center is the project’s focal point, featuring large open spaces, expansive windows for field views, a press box, alumni lounge, locker rooms, and training facilities.
    • Structural design maximized openness and transparency, delivering a visually striking facility that anchors the athletic complex.
  • Soccer Dugout & Custom Structural Features:
    • The soccer dugout was engineered with cantilevered walls and moment frames for a streamlined and clean structural system.
    • Innovative custom V-shaped beams were used to channel water off the roof, blending function with architectural distinction.
  • Softball Grandstand & Dugouts:
    • Multi-sloped steel roof structure creates a bold profile for the softball grandstand, with steel columns carefully placed to maximize views of the field.
    • Precast plank roofs were chosen for both the softball and soccer dugouts to provide a durable, shallow structural system for enhanced longevity and low maintenance.

Engineering Solutions

BKBM collaborated closely with the architect and contractor to deliver elegant structural solutions that brought the college’s vision to life. Large open spans, unique beam shapes, and carefully coordinated framing maximized user experience and operational performance while adhering to design intent and budget.
