BKBM provided structural engineering services for the 166,000 square foot, four-story senior living facility with 136 units.
Location: White Bear Lake, MN
Client: Kaas Wilson Architects
Services: Structural
Square Feet: 166,000
Construction Materials: Wood, Precast Concrete, Masonry, Structural Steel
Amenities at the facility include a restaurant, salon, spa, gathering rooms, and a fitness room. The structural system consists of a slab on grade, CMU foundation walls, one level of precast at the main level over a partial basement, and four levels of conventional wood framing spanning exterior walls to corridor walls with a sloped wood roof. The partial basement and non-stacked walls of the first floor common spaces created several design challenges for both the lateral and gravity design that BKBM was able to solve.
